Customers wanting to access your American Water bill, will need to sign into your account ^[+]. Select the account management tab and navigate to the online bill payment system. You will also notice information relating to payment assistance programs.

Customers are required to make a bill payment on a monthly basis. You will notice the charges listed on your American Water account are for the previous month.

How to Pay Your Bill

• By phone: Customers have the opportunity to make a bill payment by calling the customer service department at 1-866-271-5522
• By mail: You have the opportunity to send your bill payment to the address listed on your statement or the corporate headquarters located here ^[+]
• Online payments: Customers using the online bill payment system will need to sign into your account in order to make a payment. You have the opportunity to make a one-time bill payment or set up your account for recurring payments. When making an online bill payment, your account is accesses a nominal fee.

Types of Credit Cards Accepted by American Water Bill Pay

When you make a bill payment, you have the opportunity to use you Visa, MasterCard, American Express or your bank credit card or debit card.

Finding Help to Pay your American Water Bill

If you need assistance with your American Water bill, you will need to contact the customer service department at 1-800-383-0834. When you reach the customer service department, you will have the opportunity to request information relating to payment plans ^[+]. If your account is in good standing, you will have the ability to make a minimum payment and place the remainder of the past due balance on a payment plan. The average terms allow customers to pay the past due balance over six (6) months.

Penalties and Fees for Late American Water Bill Payments

If you are delinquent on your account, American Water accesses several fees ^[+]. If you service is terminated for non-payment, your account is charges a minimum of $50. The maximum amount charged is $100. If you make a late bill payment, your account is charged 1.5% of the past due balance until the past due balance is rendered current.
